Another scene from "Gentlemen of the Road"! I love this book already. Chabon is such nostalgic gold!

As the character of Zelikman developed, I saw that he has a penchant for chloroforming people. That's his MO you might say. I love this about him.

In this scene, Zelikman's partner is trying to rally troops, and one naysayer is kind of bringing down the mood. A big problem, until Zelikman chloroforms the shit outta that guy. Then goes "See, God doesn't like him"
Hahaha classic.

In related news, my art block appears to be over! So for the love of God, the sketches I've been doing until now, just IGNORE them they are terrible.

I got a new book from the library today! It's another Chabon, a classic adventure tale, or so he claims. So far, first chapter, here are the characters.

I can't draw horses and I hate this coloring style. I need to work on colors so badly!

The story of this, the guy holding the horse threw a knife through the blonde guy's hat, and the blonde guy is less than happy about it.

I hope it's a good book!

Finally I've done a sketch again! I've been doodling in my notebook but nothing serious. This isn't great but oh well, it's a sketch-a-day!

These are two characters I made up. I kind of love them. There are like 4 other people but I was too tired to draw them all.

The story is of brave (Arctic?) explorers who set off for various reasons. On the right is the leader, a big, boisterous blow-hard who has way fewer credentials than he claims. He wants to discover new lands for the sake of fame and glory.

To the left is the doctor, who, when the airship crashed, was the only one seriously injured. Besides a broken arm, he hit his head pretty bad and now suffers from severe bouts of temporary amnesia. Basically he's no good as a doctor anymore because he keeps forgetting what to do. But he's a really nice guy who is kind of a motherly figure to the rest of the group.

Why? WHY?

Today, I finally emerged from my two week long art block. I stuck to a fairly complex doodle, nothing GREAT but also a new coloring style and some fun expressions. But I didn't save. And for SOME reason my computer WIGGED out and crashed. Which it NEVER does.

So.

I'm left without a Sketch of the Day, because of technical difficulties. Rest assured I did do one. I just...there was an accident.

Painful as it is, hopefully my art block will overcome this tragedy and emerge victorious over my brain and technology.

Wow all kinds of cop outs on this one.

Yes I'm really tired.

Yes this was the laziest coloring job

No I didn't draw the background.

No I didn't draw feet.

Boo Kiku you have to start taking this thing seriously.

CRAP sketch of the day but I'm exhausted.

And yet up til 4am.

Oh life.

Jan 20

It's sad when you attempt to make something painterly and pretty but it just ends up gross.

This is a scene from the lovely Kavalier and Clay.

When Joe dresses up as the Escapist and is about to jump off the building with only a rubber band string to hold him.

Anyway low opacity brushes stroked directionally to make the illusion of movement but it didn't work.

Jan 18

My other characters! Sonya and Sebastian, I kind of love them. Even though I still have no idea who they are or what they are about.

I haven't been able to draw all week since I've been suffering from insomnia :/

Jan 17

Is this like a boy scout?

An eagle scout?

A scout leader!

But he's kind of...not happy.

Jan 16

Ok I said I would post everything.

Here I actually wrote an excuse to myself.

Yeah, I couldn't draw that day.

Jan 15

Kissy kissy!

No idea again. At least the quality is a bit better.

Jan 14

I don't even know what this is.

When you HAVE to draw a sketch each day, some days you just...draw naked jungle boys.

It just...happens.

No but really it was originally supposed to be a sailor with clothing but I got lazy. I sketch out the body first and then draw the clothing over it, but...lazy.

Oh don't bother to click for full image.

This is just a silly meme. The premise was to put your iTunes on shuffle and then draw a picture for each song, based on a kind of theme (Lol ok I chose Lupin don't laugh I was in a HP mood), and you only have the time of the song to draw.

Hard!

A few of these were actually semi-dec, but most were crap.

Jan 12

Experimenting with that lovely classic lithograph, liney style that I looove. Seriously, if I could master this, I would never draw any other way.

Big head boy.

Jan 11

Some character sketches for a novel I will never ever write. It's about a blow-hard adventurer who knows nothing really, but wants to be totally famous, and his crack team of scientists along for the terrible, disastrous ride.

Poorly drawn but the mood is there perhaps.

CLICK FOR LARGER IMAGE

This wasn't really a "sketch" of the day, since I'd been working on it for a while, but I did sketch several of these panels that day so I figured it counts.

A cartoon about Perseus, Hermes and the dilemma I always assumed would occur in this myth.

Oh color scheme. Where are you?

More HP art! This is Ollivader, but since I drew it so poorly, I called it "Lollivander" which made me Lol.

Oh what a dork.

I wanted this to be exaggerated and cartoonish, which I suppose it is.

Legs, once again, my downfall.

Jan 4

Ok I'm done with the fancy formatting, it takes too long.

This is crap, but I promised myself I would post every day so...

(that being said, some of the days are missing because I drew them on real paper, and left that sketchbook at home so I don't have them to scan)

So...this I was really lazy and didn't want to be precise. So...I just kind of painted. Crappily.

Enjoy.

Jan 2

I was reading Harry Potter, I guess the 7th book at this point, so I drew plenty of HP art in this time.

So this is Xenophilius (spelling?) and little Luna. The flowers that Luna is holding was supposed to be for her mother's grave, which originally I drew in the background but I SUCK at backgrounds as you all know.

So...this was my very first sketch of the day. I was very tired though so it is very incomplete. I think my idea was, a father carrying his son while a zeppelin flies overhead. I wanted to convey an old London street, the father I wanted to be hunched in tiredness, and I really wanted to make a decent background.

I wanted the zeppelin to be kind of LOOMING and if there were color the light source would be the zeppelin, great artificial lights with darker, candle lights on the streets.

TOO BAD IT LOOKS LIKE THIS.

Big dreams for this one!
